"Say You Won't Let Go" is a song past English vocalizer and songwriter James Arthur. The song was released as a digital download on 9 September 2016 in the U.k. by Columbia Records equally the atomic number 82 single from his second studio anthology Back from the Edge (2016).[1] The single peaked at the superlative of the UK Singles Chart, a position it maintained for 3 weeks. Outside the United Kingdom, the single has topped the charts in Commonwealth of australia, New Zealand, Sweden and the Republic of Ireland. It also became his breakthrough hitting in the United states of america, peaking at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100. In early on March, it had gone double platinum in the UK.[two] In May 2018, it was reported that The Script had launched legal proceedings against Arthur due to alleged copyright infringement in regards to the song.[3]

In response to claims that the vocal sounds similar to The Script'southward "The Man Who Tin can't Be Moved", the vocal's writers initially decided non to pursue legal activeness.[4] All the same, following a claim in May 2018, they were successfully awarded a songwriting credit.[5]

Commercial performance [edit]

On 12 September 2016, the song was at number xxx on The Official Chart Update in the United Kingdom.[6] [7] On xvi September 2016, the song entered the Britain Singles Chart at number 25, and peaked at number one two weeks later, condign Arthur's second number one and spending three consecutive weeks at the top. The song was ranked the nineteenth biggest-selling vocal of 2016 in the Britain, making Arthur the biggest-selling British male artist of the year.[8] By the second calendar week of January 2017, information technology had surpassed the one meg sales mark, making him the first-always Ten Factor act to accept ii singles sell over a meg copies in his homeland.[9]

In the United States, the song debuted at #100 on the date November 12, 2016. The vocal peaked at #xi for ii not-sequent weeks being kept out of the top ten from Malibu by Miley Cyrus the first calendar week and Congratulations by Mail service Malone the second week. Information technology spent 52 weeks on the chart.[10] [xi] The song is his first unmarried to chart on the US Billboard Hot 100, making Arthur merely the second winner of The 10 Cistron Britain to reach the US elevation forty (following Leona Lewis) and only the tertiary winner to nautical chart on the Hot 100 following Lewis and Petty Mix. In May 2017, the vocal reached No. ane on the Adult Pop Songs Airplay Chart, more than six months after its release in the US.[12] The song was also certified platinum in the US by the RIAA on May eighteen, 2017.[13] The song has sold over 1,208,000 digital copies in the US as of September 2017.[14] It was the eighth best-selling song of 2017 in the US, with 1,195,000 copies sold in 2017.[fifteen]

By 2021, the single had sold 2,676,756 copies in the Uk.[sixteen]

On 15 September 2016, the song entered the Irish Singles Chart at number 91 before peaking at number 1 on fourteen October and spending 4 non-consecutive weeks at the top of the charts. The song has as well charted in Australia, France, New Zealand and Sweden. On February 26, 2017, it was announced on Aqueduct 4'south Sunday Brunch that the single had sold 2 million copies worldwide.[17]

A music video to accompany the release of "Say You Won't Allow Go" was first released onto YouTube on 9 September 2016 at a total length of iii minutes and thirty seconds.[18] On YouTube it has received over 1.two billion views.[19]
